Equity in Memory and Memorial (E2M) is a peace-building initiative to promote sustainability by providing substantive steps to create equity in memory and memorials of enslaved African Americans in burial grounds in Charlotte. We focus on respect and affirmation of common humanity while reckoning with a complicated past. This project has several dimensions: community partnerships with local churches; a partnership with the NC Office of State Archeology; and a course for students entitled "Christianity, Slavery, and the City of Charlotte," in which students do archival work as well as work on site.
