The nineteenth century’s dramatic changes—fueled by colonialism and technology—led to differences in how people thought. In this talk, Shahzad Bashir, Ph.D. (Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilisations, Aga Khan University International) argues that the concept of ‘mirroring’ is a useful way to think about how perceptions of the world changed. “Mirroring” includes such activities as reflection, distortion, deception, changes of scale, and infinite regression, thus allowing us a more complex view into how humans thought about knowledge and the world in the nineteenth century. │religiousstudies.charlotte.edu
